I write words good. Or — if you’d prefer a more loquacious introduction — I’m a versatile communications professional with extensive experience in journalism, copy-writing, content marketing, editing, promotional emails and internal comms.
My writing has been featured by the Culture Trip, Rugby League Week, YHA Australia, Men’s Style, official programs for the V8 Supercars and the College Football Sydney Cup, preview mags for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Euro 2016 and 2015 AFL season, HI Canada, Australia-New Zealand magazine, Vertigo, Education Review, HI Hostels, The Byte and even Lesbians on the Loose. Born and raised in Sydney, I relocated to Manchester permanently in December 2018. Get in touch with any freelance opportunities — it would be great to work together!
The Culture Trip — Writer — September 2017 to now
Whether it’s a listicle covering 11 reasons why you should date an Australian or the story of an endangered green-haired turtle that breathes through its genitals (seriously, click that link), I’ve covered it all for the Culture Trip. Great freelance gig producing attention-grabbing content for this London-based, millennial-focused travel startup.
YHA Australia — Communications Coordinator — June 2016 to June 2018
Writing about travel has to be right up there with ‘chocolate taster’ and ‘puppy dog trainer’ on the pantheon of the world’s top jobs, and that’s exactly what this full-time role at YHA delivered. For two years I was the Communications Coordinator for a network of 70-plus backpacker hostels, the largest provider of budget accommodation in Australia.
At YHA, I spearheaded the content marketing strategy by publishing quality long-form destination pieces and travel lifestyle articles (check out some of my yarns on the ‘Read my words’ tab!), as well as distributing twice-monthly email newsletters, managing the internal intranet for an organisation with 350 employees, and editing the 128-page accommodation guide and member magazine Backpacker Essentials.
Bauer Media — Journalist — February 2011 to December 2017
If writing about travel sounds like a sweet gig, how about getting paid to watch football? Between 2011 and 2017, I contributed to Rugby League Week magazine — churning out match reports, player profiles, features and news — until the magazine sadly pulled the curtain on half-a-century of history in 2017.
During my seven years at Bauer Media I also worked on a range of one-shot sporting titles like the official programmes of the V8 Supercars (2015-16), International Champions Cup football tournament (2015) and the College Football Sydney Cup (2016), plus preview magazines for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, 2015 AFL season and the UEFA Euro 2016.
